Dorm Sweet Dorm…

As this school year is coming to a close, I’ll confess that I’ve already been planning and dreaming about color schemes, fabrics and layout for my new dorm home this fall…

My future roomie and I went on a thrifting adventure a picked out some pretty floral vintage dishes and wall art for next year. (Thank you Salvation Army!) We also found some pretty metal tray’s. I think we’ll use them for our tea/coffee space next year. Although after seeing this tray I’m in the mood for a DIY!

Each year I love the challenge of making an empty dorm space into a functional, homey retreat. My lovely future roommate is completely on board, which is a change from my previous experiences! I’m excited to see what we come up with… hopefully by then I’ll have a working camera and can post photos of my thrifting finds and adventures in the Twin Cities.

Here are some images that fuel my ideas and daydreaming… click the images to visit their sweet blog homes. (:

What a beautiful day for a daydream…

Here in the lovely state of Minnesota it’s a blustery 42 degrees and snowing lightly. Gross.

So, I’ve been consoling myself with the lovely work of Linn Olofsdotter. (:

I was first introduced to Linn’s work a year ago via thecoolhunter. I love the collage feel of her work, her use of mixed media.. not to mention the vibrant, dream like quality of her pieces! I really can’t help but smile and dream of spring.  For more of her work, visit her website.

Since the theme of this post is daydreams, I would be completely remiss if I didn’t add poetry to the mix. Byron has become a favorite of mine. I’m hoping that I’ll come across his work on a thrifting adventure in the near future, fingers crossed!

The Dream (excerpt): Lord Byron

The mind can make
Substances, and people planets of its own
With beings brighter than have been, and give
A breath to forms which can outlive all flesh.

Click here for the complete poem.

This was one of the pieces that I first fell in love with.. although I’m not quite sure why as I never was a Little Mermaid fan growing up (Confession: I’ve never actually seen the complete movie!) .. although I did love the mermaids in Peter Pan. Maybe because they’re more mischievous than cutesy?

My God is not dead, He’s surely ALIVE

Coffee. How could that be my first thought this morning as I pulled myself out of bed? Today should be the biggest celebration of my year. Stumbling into the bathroom I stub my toe, curse at the door jamb. Today feels the same as any other.

I go through my routine of getting myself ready for another sixteen hour day sitting behind a desk. Play a show on hulu to ensure that I don’t fall asleep in my first hour. Watch with envy the last couple kids going to church with family.

Sitting here as I mope over a crappy cup of morning caffination and monitoring empty security cameras was not my ideal plan for celebrating Easter Sunday. Reluctantly, because I know I should and NOT because I’m feeling in the mood, I pull out my Bible and a couple devotionals. Hitting play on my worship playlist I dive in.

For in Christ all the fulness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fulness in Christ, who is the Head over every power and authority.

In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ,

having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 2:9-14

Yes, my first thoughts of the morning may have been rather shallow. Yes, I cursed this morning at an inanimate object within a minute of waking. Yes, I am terribly in need of a Saviour.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
   each of us has turned to our own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
   the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and afflicted,
   yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.

By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished.

He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death,
though he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
and though the LORD makes his life an offering for sin,
he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

After he has suffered,
   he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.

For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53:6-12

In the Midst of Tempest

My Anchor Holds

Though the angry surges roll

On my tempest driven soul

I am peaceful for I know

Wildly though the winds may blow

I’ve an anchor safe and sure

That can evermore endure

And it holds

My anchor holds

And it holds

My anchor holds

Mighty tides about me sweep

Perils lurk within the deep

Angry clouds o’er shade the sky

And the tempest rises high

Still I stand the tempest shock

For my anchor grips the rock

And it holds

My anchor holds

And it holds

My anchor holds

Within my soul

The winds around me blow

I know my anchor holds

I can feel the anchor fast

As I meet the sudden blast

And the cable though unseen

Bears the heavy strain between

Through the storm I safely ride

Till the turning of the tide

And it holds

My anchor holds

And it holds

My anchor holds

Within my soul

The winds around me blow

I know my anchor holds

Blow your wildest then O gale

On my bark so small and frail

By his grace I shall not fail

Troubles almost whelm the soul

Seas like billows o’re me roll

Tempters seek to lure astray

Storms obscure the light of day

But in Christ I can bold

I’ve an anchor that shall hold

I’ve an anchor that shall hold

By your strength I shall not fail
