Friend Crush

Have you ever had a friend crush? Well, for those of you who haven’t here are the urbandictionary definitions:

1. Experiencing a strong desire to become friends with a person you don’t know very well. Often times, people experiencing friend crushes will exhibit nervousness, giddiness, idolatry, admiration, and clumsiness similar to those emotions experienced when being around a regular crush.

2. When you see someone you don’t really know and want to become friends with him or  her. A nonsexual crush. Wanting to be friends with someone.

Ex: I saw John today. I kind of have a friend crush on him…not gonna lie.

If you haven’t guessed it yet from the excessive number of photos attached to this posting I have a huge friend crush on non other than Charity of the Head and the Heart.

The best part? I’m going to meet her next week!  AND, the other best part? It’s a FREE show. PTL for Spring Jam at the University of Minnesota.

Spring & Soda Bread

One of my classmates gave a speech on bread. Oh, I love that there are other college girls that are passionate about handmaking and that I’m not the only girl out there daydreaming about things like kneading bread dough!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those foodie type of people who are obsessed with cuisine and organic everything. It’s more along the lines of a Laura Ingalls Wilder obsession, the prairie and handmade. I’ve probably been reading too many homsteading blogs.  (:

Spring just reminds me that there is just something so satisfying about production. There is so much gratification in making something from nothing.

And now that I’m typing it all out I’m realizing that maybe Spring just reminds me of my Creator. Bleak days are gone and I’m reminded that I too was meant to create. Simple as that.

Background Music: Bowerbirds

I thought I would leave another post, sharing a recent music obsession.

SO, I was browsing through my friend Cassie’s blog ( before bed, and I fell head over heels for the Bowerbirds. Yes, please I want some more! I am not the type of girl who has many opinions on music, and it’s a rare occurrence when I listen to music  that  truely haunts me in the best of ways.

However, the next morning I still had this stong playing through my head. I hope it  mesmerizes you too.

Reading, Umbrellas and my MOM

“Stay awake, don’t rest your head. Don’t lie down upon your bed. While the moon drifts in the skies… Stay awake, don’t close your eyes. Though the world is fast asleep, though your pillow’s soft and deep, you’re not sleepy as you seem; stay awake, don’t nod and dream… Stay awake… don’t nod… and… dream.” -Mary Poppins

Today is a dreary, green and grey kind of day. The type of day you  go outside for a moment just to use your cute umbrella. The kind of day you can smell dirt and new in the air. The kind of day that makes you feel alive, yet also tempts you to tuck away in some lovely nook and pour over your books.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my mom lately. She is such a dear lady to me. I was one of those kids that hated reading at first, it was so tiresome! Yet, she persevered and we would take turns reading to each other. Ours was the type of home that every night my siblings and I would lay on the living room floor and listen to so many adventures.. a mouse and his motorcycle, the quirks of Ramona Quimby and several more dear friends.

You may have tangible wealth untold; Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be –I had a mother who read to me.
~Strickland Gillilan

I know I missed my chance to write a mother’s day post, but really is it ever an inappropriate day to be thankful for a Mom? I hope that I’m the same kind of mother someday… the one that reads and lets her kids play in the rain. That bends the rules on bedtime to finish that last chapter. I simply love her a lot.

And in case she’s wondering, I’m a brownie with frosting today. [Rather than the burnt, crabby variety.]

Ahem. A little thing called accountability.

Since a theme of this blog (all 13 posts!) seems to be confessions, I’ll confess that in the past (recent past) I have had a tendancy to overcommit myself… So I’ve decide to write a list!

I know, I know…it’s obviously going to be really effective. Here’s the catch, it’s not a list of things to keep myself busy all summer. It’s exactly the opposite. Here’s my list of 12 things (one for every week that I’ll be home) that I want to do to take some blissful time off. (:

1. Garden with my Mom

2. Bake homemade, completely from scratch bread

3. Hike to St. Mary’s look-out

4. Find a place to Volunteer, maybe the local library?

5. Visit an art gallery with Eli

6. Go rock climbing (!!!)

7. Sew something cute to wear… here’s my inspiration

8. this DIY project for my dorm

9. Float the River

10. YARD SALE (note, the caps lock is on… this might be my favorite way to pass time in the summer, who doesn’t love a good deal?!)

11. Browse fresh produce at the Farmers Market

12. Learn to longboard

SO, lets see how well this lovely list keeps me in check. (:

12280 minutes left until I’m home in the Treasure State.
